Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion 2015 – Line-up Announced

Annual Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion
Music Festival Lineup Announced

Steve Earle & The Dukes, Dr. Dog and Delbert McClinton Headlining

Birthplace of Country Music (BCM), parent organization of Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, revealed a stellar lineup of artists for the 15th annual festival.  The three-day music celebration honoring Bristol’’s unique music history as the site of the legendary 1927 Bristol Sessions will be held September 18 —to 20, 2015 in Historic Downtown Bristol, Tennessee/Virginia.

I travelled to Bristol last October as part of The Crooked Road music heritage trail and spent a few days in this delightful historic town right on the Tennessee and Virginia border.  There’s plenty to do here even without the festival – visit the outstanding Birthplace of Country Music Museum, the nearby Carter Family Fold and many other historic points.

Last year Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion attracted more than 60,000 visitors, artists, vendors, and volunteers. Continue reading

Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival 2015 Line-Up

I love going to music festivals – so much musical diversity within a small proximity, food and local culture on hand which is indigenous to the surroundings and lots of people just happy to be there, enjoying the experience – every festival I have been to has had a different feel – hard to explain.  Maybe one day I’ll have a go at that.

Anyway, there are three events that I’ve had on my festivals-I-haven’t-attended-but would-love-to list for a while – they are The Old Settler’s Festival Driftwood Texas, Merlefest in Wilkesboro North Carolina and the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion in Bristol Tennessee/Virginia.

Well, I’ve found another one to add to my clumsily-titled list.  The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is a four-day, multi-stage camping festival held on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee (an hour’s drive, south west of Nashville).  Dates for the 2015 event are 11 to 14 June.  Here’s the large and imposing bill:

Merlefest 2015 Line-Up

Lee Ann Womack, Trampled By Turtles and
Robert Earl Keen to Perform at MerleFest 2015

MerleFest, slated for April 23-26, 2015, has announced Grammy-winning country vocalist Lee Ann Womack, festival circuit favorites Trampled By Turtles and legendary singer/songwriter Robert Earl Keen have been added to the music festival’s line-up.

The four-day event, an annual homecoming of musicians and music fans, will once again take place on the campus of Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro, North Carolina.  MerleFest is known for its unique mix of traditional, roots-oriented music from the Appalachian region, including bluegrass and old-time music, Americana, blues, country, Celtic, Cajun, cowboy, zydeco, rock and many other styles that the late Doc Watson referred to as “traditional plus.”

“The addition of Lee Ann Womack, Trampled By Turtles and Robert Earl Keen to our 2015 lineup is just another example of how we are keeping ‘traditional plus’ music front and center,” said Steve Johnson, artist relations manager for MerleFest.  “All three are a perfect complement to an already diverse lineup.  We are excited to have them on board and we expect there may still be a few more surprises to come.”
