A List Of U.S. Roots Music Festivals

World Of Bluegrass Festival – Raleigh North Carolina

Version 2

Updated due to the Bridge School Benefit dates being announced

For the past couple of years I have been planning odysseys to the USA from Australia, with the major aim of attending as many roots music events as I can.  In 2014, I have the opportunity to go to five festivals in five weeks mid September to lat October) without too much crisscrossing travel in between (well, not THAT much anyway!).

This planning has however proven to be painstaking as I have never found a single website that provides an up-to-date and comprehensive list of music festivals that fit into my preferred categories – alt. country, folk, Americana, blues, rock, folk and soul.  For quite a while I have been compiling my own list as more events became known during my web activity.

So here is my first attempt at a list that contains as many events of which I am aware.  Sure, there’ll be plenty of omissions (particularly the smaller scale blues events) and an error or two here and there.  But it is a start.

I plan to keep working on the list, so if you have any comments, corrections, observations, I would be happy to hear from you.

New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Poster

Jazzfest Poster Now Available

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is held over the last weekend of April and the first weekend of May each year. The hefty line-up was announced a couple of weeks ago (see below).

One of the great traditions of Jazz Fest is the release of official posters each year (one for Jazz Fest and one for ‘Congo Square’, the latter being the first legal place of assembly for black musicians in the city). I have two Congo Square posters – 2008 and 2009 which feature trumpeter Kermit Ruffins and a young Trombone Shorty respectively. They are cherished memories of my first two Jazz Fests and have pride of place in my living area.

For 2014, the Jazz Fest poster is a realization of original artwork portraying a musical group and historical venue that connect the City to its deepest cultural roots – the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. This limited edition silk-screened 45th Anniversary print is a must-have for collectors of the series and for any fan of the music and art of these stars and the city that inspires them. There are various editions available starting at $US69.

Pre-Order now at http://www.art4now.com.

Watch for the release of Congo Square 2014 & BayouWear® brand Tropical Clothing 2014 coming soon.
